It is widely known as Victoria Falls, but its original name is Mosi oa Tunya Falls meaning 'the smoke that thunders.' The smoke or spray clouds it produces can be seen from miles away, hence the 'smoke'. Once you get upclose you will find out why the 'thunder' is part of the name.
